The world comes to Bühlertal on May 18 - 20, 2012!

The World Masters Mountain Running Championships Bühlertal 2012 are the official World Championships in mountain running for veterans. They will take place from May 18 - 20, 2012 and will be held in Bühlertal / Baden-Württemberg. Local organizer is Turnverein Bühlertal. The World Championships will be assigned by the World Mountain Running Association WMRA. About 1,000 entrants from more than 25 nations are
expected. The participants compete in their age group, ranging from M/F35 - to M/F75 in 5 year steps. The race distance is about 9.5 km with a difference in altitude of 776m.

For the world championships about 1000 athletes from more than 25 nations are expected.

Already registered are participants from Austria, Belgium, Estonia, France, Great Britain, Italy, Norway, Switzerland, and USA and of course Germany.

WINNIE IS TOP WOMENS 40-44 SPRINTER IN THE WORLD FOR 2011

Winnie gets her rightful place at the top of the World Masters Rankings for the 100m Women (40-44) age group during 2011 ! Congratulations !

Hot on the heels of Winnie was Charmain Barnard, who also bettered the South African national record last season with a time of 12.16 which places her 2nd on the ranking list. Charmain is better known as a triple jumper and still holds the S.A. Senior Women's Triple Jump record for almost 20 years:

Senior Women Triple Jump 13.46m Wind + 0.3 m/s Charmain Barnard Bloemfontein 10 April 1992.

Winnie has just entered the 45 age group, but is sure to be pushed to another age group record by Charmain when they meet at the Gauteng North provincial championships
on 31 March at Pilditch, Pretoria !

NWN Masters reported a record number of 142 entries at their championships on 11 February in Rustenburg. Some of the top performers were Gavin da Silva, Men 30-34, running the 800m in 2:07, PB for the season, with no track training only road running, and the 400m in 55sec., also PB for season with no speedwork to date. We are looking forward to Gavin running a sub- 2min this season.

Thomas Endrody scored a magnificent 11.80 in the 100m for Men 50-54, which scored him a 94.25% on the age-graded tables and he jumped 1.60m in the high jump.

These performances are just a taste of what we can expect in the remaining provincial and national and African championships this season

Time for registration ends February 12th, so now is the last chance for you and your friends to do it! We want to remind you that the only requirement for participationin this World Championship experience is athletic club membership. You can register online easily in official WMA2012 Jyväskylä Website: wma2012.jyvaskyla.fi/entry_booklet

It will be organised a lot of side events during the competitions, for example there will be an opportunity for attending to lectures about sports. Also local companies organise trips to travel destinations situated in surrounding country. The goal is to organise something to do for every day. LIZ RUICKBIE WINS THE SA MARATHON CHAMPIONSHIPS FOR LADIES 60+



Liz Ruickbie wins S.A. Marathon Championships for 60+ Ladies

Liz took top honours on Sunday 5 February, winning the S.A. Marathon Championships for Ladies 60+ in an excellent time of 3hrs 38m 57s, 16 mins ahead of her nearest rival, Elaine Greenblatt, another remarkable athlete from Central Gauteng. Liz, the epitomy of health and fitness, turns 65 on 12 February ! Well done, Liz, and may you enjoy many road running and track years !
